George A. Spyrou
President
George Spyrou, born in Glasgow, Scotland, is Chairman and CEO of Airship Management
Services, Inc. (AMS) of Greenwich, Connecticut, and Elizabeth City, North Carolina, USA. Prior to the formation
of AMS, he was Sales and Marketing Director for Airship Industries Ltd. in the U.K., where he was responsible for the
sale or lease of 14 airships worldwide, used for advertising and security surveillance. He has been involved with
airships since 1982.
Mr. Spyrou took his Bachelor's degree in International Relations at Harvard College
(1971), and then his law degrees (BA; Ll.M) at Christ's College, Cambridge ('73 and '74), specializing in Maritime
Law. He is a Member of the English Bar, the Bar Association of Commerce Finance and Industry, the AIAA in the U.S.
and the Airship Association in the U.K. Prior to working in the airship business, Mr. Spyrou was associated with the
Maritime law firm of Healy & Baillie as well as with the firm of Cadwalader, Wickersham and Taft, before joining the
legal department of Olympic Maritime.
He is a U.S. citizen and lives in Greenwich, Connecticut with his wife and three
children.
Captain John L. McHugh
General Manager/Senior Pilot
John McHugh is a long established and recognized veteran of the airship industry. He
began his LTA career following four years of aviation studies at college in New Jersey where he grew up as a boy in
the shadow of LTA's historic Lakehurst Naval Air Station. During John's thirty years of flying, he has piloted
airships on several continents and received Commercial ratings in Japan, Korea, United Kingdom and the U.S.A. His
nearly 15,000 hours of flight time include a wide range of certifications, ranging from seaplane flight instructor to
airline transport pilot with numerous jet aircraft type ratings.
He has personally been requested to provide airship training to every FAA Airship
Inspector since the 1980's; and is currently designated as the FAA's only civilian Pilot Examiner for airships. John
functions in a senior GM position for AMS where he oversees operations for the fleet of Skyship series aircraft and
their support crews. He has a close working relationship with the FAA, and is often called upon to lend expertise to
various industry projects on behalf of AMS.
John resides in Dallas, Texas, but spends much time on operational matters abroad.
